Growing up in San Diego, Dr. Jonathan Gao graduated from the University of California San Diego, with a degree in Human Biology and planned on returning to the community that raised him after his dental education. Dr. Gao went on to pursue his Doctor of Dental Surgery, residency in Orthodontics, and Masters in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. He was very active in research as well as community service, receiving several awards, including Distinguished Volunteer and Provider of the Year for the UC San Francisco Community Dental Clinic.
During his free time, Dr. Gao enjoys staying active outdoors, photography, and giving back to the community.
